Lincoln’s oldest car wash is set to “rocket” into the future.
Omaha-based Rocket Carwash announced Thursday that it is the company that bought Husker Car Wash at 6135 O St.
The car wash closed Tuesday after 50 years in business, 37 of those under the ownership of Paul Kasl and later his son Bill, who said he decided to sell after being approached with an offer.
“We are thrilled to acquire a car wash with such a rich history, one that Lincoln has come to endear for the last 50 years,” Rocket Carwash President Bryan Marshall said in a news release. “We are confident that we can build upon the legacy of Husker Car Wash and offer Lincoln the best car wash experience in the Midwest.”
The company said it will operate the car wash as is for a couple of months and then close it for roughly three months while it does a $5 million renovation project.
The Husker Car Wash site is Rocket Carwash’s second Lincoln location. Its other one is at 4808 Leighton Ave. The company also has two locations in the Omaha area and one in Pennsylvania.
It has two other car washes under construction in Omaha and plans locations in Bellevue, Fremont and Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Tehl Keslar, the company’s chief operations officer, said it also is “actively seeking other locations in Lincoln.”
